       In recent years, the picosecond laser has become one of the most widely used lasers in Asia. Indeed, the Asian population places great importance on having fair, spotless skin. In this respect, technological advancements in tattoo removal lasers have revolutionized their application, now making it possible to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes on the face in just a few sessions.

With a set of handpieces corresponding to the various wavelengths needed to treat pigment spots on the face – 555nm, 785nm, 1064nm – picosecond lasers, and especially those of the latest generation, allow for good results on facial spots.

        They are widely used in Asia because they offer significant performance, delivering satisfactory results with minimal risk to Asian skin, which is prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. In this context, these new lasers have demonstrated their effectiveness as well as their low risk of side effects. 

The picosecond laser, the surgeon's best ally for reducing facial spots. 

This method is based on a photomechanical rather than a photothermal effect, thus treating the spot while minimizing collateral damage to the tissue and dermis. We are referring to altered pigmentation, all of which is combined with no downtime. In Lausanne, we are particularly pleased with our experience using the Cynosure laser, as its various handpieces allow us to work on different spot sizes and, combined with different wavelengths, to target the photomechanical threads to the various spots. We observed a very clear improvement in both the appearance and the spots from the very first sessions. At our center, we take a scientific approach to the subject, as the patient first benefits from a computerized skin analysis to diagnose the type of spots and their origins (aging, sunspots), thus enabling us to develop the optimal laser treatment strategy.

The spot removal session is painless and quite quick. As it involves tattoo removal, the results can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to become visible. We initially favor 550 nanosecond handpieces, which theoretically perfectly match the photomechanical effect of pigment disruption. Combined with a low thermal effect, this creates a true cavitation that fades both epidermal and dermal pigmentation. 
It's worth noting that laser treatment can also affect the remodeling of collagen channels, thus reducing fine lines and enlarged pores. A true skin revitalization can be achieved simultaneously through our associated customized skincare protocols, which combine collagen and cytokine production to promote skin health and beauty. It should also be noted that melasma can be lightened by laser treatment. 

However, without preventative measures against sun exposure, this condition recurs within a few weeks. While it is possible to lighten melasma spots with the pico laser, in practice, they will recur if patients do not strictly adhere to sun protection measures, particularly in Switzerland given the significant sun exposure associated with high altitudes.
