Laser tattoo removal
Technology PICOSURE laser implementation at the Rivieraclinic by the doctor Smarrito is based on the new generation of picosecond lasers.
This is a proven method for removing tattoos, even difficult ones.
Picosure Laser
The PICOSURE laser is an effective solution with low risks.
Indeed, we use a photomechanical action. This is the opposite of the old lasers that burned.
Thus, these picosecond lasers are more suitable than older q-switched lasers . Similarly, older-generation nanosecond or 6000 picosecond lasers, based primarily on a photothermal effect, left a residual mark on the treated area. This is known as ghosting , which does not occur with our technology.
This laser technology is innovative. However, it has been mastered for several years. It is extremely effective. In particular, it allows for the treatment of classic black or grey tattoos, but also colored tattoos that were initially difficult to treat.
The scientific community is unanimous: extreme effectiveness and a significant reduction in the number of sessions with PICOSURE.

Understanding the difference in laser tattoo removal technology
Dr. Smarrito[Name of FMH specialist], informs you about the Picosure laser
Picosecond laser systems, such as the PICOSURE system we have at Rivieraclinic centers, emit a laser beam. This laser beam (light) has a wavelength that produces very short pulses of intense light that penetrate the upper layers of the skin to deliver energy to the pigment. The light thus has a mechanical action, vaporizing the pigment without causing any damage to the skin.
These laser pulses target the tattoo pigment without causing scarring or hypo- or hyperpigmentation of the skin. As the laser pulses pass through the skin, they are absorbed by the pigments, and the laser light is transformed into photoacoustic waves . The pigment is mechanically fragmented into extremely fine particles. These particles are then naturally absorbed by the immune system . Within a few weeks, the tattoo microparticles are reabsorbed and eliminated.
Several sessions are generally required to completely remove the tattoo, but the PICOSURE laser reduces the theoretical number of sessions for tattoo removal by a factor of 4.
PICOSURE laser tattoo removal results before and after:
Tattoo removal – PicoSure laser – 2 sessions / 3 planned
Tattoo removal – picosure laser – 2 sessions / 3 planned – Tattoo on old (residual) scar, patient needs to tan to harmonize the color, without residual ghost trace.
Tattoo removal – PicoSure laser – 2 sessions / 4 planned
Tattoo removal – picosure laser – 2 sessions / 4 planned – Intermediate ink density with deeper tattooed areas.

The global leader in tattoo removal
PICOSURE lasers are considered the gold standard in tattoo removal. It's worth noting that the Q-switched laser was a benchmark for many years, but this technology dates back to the 80s. Most high-performing centers have abandoned Q-switched lasers for tattoo removal. Recently, PICOSURE technology has been strengthened and improved, both in terms of handpieces and laser software; this is the technology we offer in our centers.
This new approach to laser tattoo removal shortens treatment time. Both the number and the interval between sessions are reduced. The safety and effectiveness of the treatment have been increased, without resulting in discoloration.
Indeed, picosure lasers allow very short and powerful pulses that penetrate deep into the skin without damaging the superficial layers.
The pulses are absorbed by the tattoo removal pigment, which breaks down into small particles. This releases gas, resulting in a rather characteristic image. The appearance fades after a few days.
The only laser capable of removing colored tattoos: red, blue, yellow…
Benefit from our laser center expertise
Tattoo removal is also a matter of experience and clinical diagnosis . A tattoo is generally composed of different lines. Some may have varying densities.
Similarly, multiple sessions will be necessary to achieve effectiveness on dark tattoos and then on colored tattoos. Tattoo removal doesn't stop at analyzing the pigment; a tattoo is a chemical reaction in the skin and dermis, and it is composed of pigments and solvents.
Furthermore, some tattoos are more difficult to treat due to their chemical composition; for example, dermopigmentation tattoos ( for eyebrows ) generally contain oxides, particularly iron or titanium, which can change color during the tattooing process.
It is also not uncommon to encounter scar areas; we draw patients' attention to the fact that if a raised scar is present under the tattoo, it may persist, and on the other hand, the pigments will be faded.
A certain level of clinical expertise is therefore necessary for professional treatment; the number of sessions will vary depending on these parameters.
With the PicoSure laser, the time between laser sessions has also been reduced thanks to the laser's performance. You can have a session once a month. Epidermal damage is minimized, as is the risk of residual spots.
It should be noted that with PicoSure lasers, the risk of bleeding is virtually nonexistent. This was much more frequent with Q-Witch lasers. However, temporarily after treatment, swelling and blisters may appear in the treated area. This is a natural reaction following laser tattoo removal.
This phenomenon is due to the fractionation of pigments but also to the emission of subcutaneous gas.
Everything will be back to normal within a few days. We are always at your disposal to provide a diagnosis and help you choose the most suitable tattoo removal technology . You can make an appointment at 021 922 24 63 for more information.
