FUE transplantation is a Follicular Unit Extraction transplantation, the concept of which consists of making small holes in the back of the skull in the donor area and then transferring the grafts to the recipient.

Two main areas were addressed; firstly, post-operative sensations: patients often fear being in pain.

Hair transplantation itself is not painful. A simple prescription for paracetamol is often sufficient after the procedure. In some cases, when sensations are more intense, a morphine derivative in drop form will be enough to alleviate any pain. In fact, it's more of a discomfort than pain, which generally affects the patient for a few weeks. This swelling may be completely absent, or more noticeable with facial swelling lasting a few days.

Here again, a specific treatment is put in place to limit it as much as possible. The follow-up is simple; precise instructions are given by Dr. SMARRITO Post-operatively, details such as the date when it's possible to shampoo and a strategy for removing scabs as quickly as possible will be important. For two months, the grafts will be dormant, so there will be no new hair growth for at least two months.

After two months, hair appears, initially just fine down. At four months, the hair is more noticeable, similar to a short haircut, and the rejuvenating effect is already apparent to those around you. At six months, the hair is almost back to normal, and at one year, you can start experimenting with different hairstyles.

The best position for performing a hair transplant is the semi-seated position, therefore the hair transplant will be performed under local anesthesia.

A simple injection is performed and we use modern means, such as laughing gas or premedications, to ensure that the sensations are painless.

This anesthesia is light and therefore less risky than general anesthesia.

Yes of course, it is possible to have a hair transplant in women, however this type of transplant in women has particularities.

Indeed, we cannot consider that there is a donor area in non-hormone-dependent women; therefore, the entire scalp behaves identically. If hair falls out, there are no hairs that resist, unlike in men where the crown resists and does not fall out. Thus, if a patient presents a scarred area or an area where hair is missing, it will be necessary to transfer existing hairs from the back of the scalp to the area to be transplanted.

It is therefore very important to have a pre-operative assessment to ensure that it is not a disease causing hair loss. I systematically see patients for consultations and prescribe a complete evaluation to investigate the cause of the alopecia and characterize it.

It is entirely possible to have multiple hair transplants; however, it generally takes between 6 months and 2 years for the scalp, and especially the donor area, to recover. Therefore, for very large areas, it may be possible to perform two hair transplants at a distance.
